Scientology Handbook in Zambia—Helping Those who Help in Times of Disaster
In times of disaster people depend on those who can maintain their own equilibrium and establish order and control—public officials who know what they're doing and can think on their feet. The Scientology Volunteer Ministers African Goodwill Tour is providing disaster relief training to Zambian police to make sure they know exactly what to do when disaster strikes.
The training sessions were held at a large police facility outside the city of Kitwe, called Kamfinsa Camp. Through more than 30 years of experience helping in disaster zones, Scientology Volunteer Ministers have developed a unique training program, based on the technology developed by Scientology founder L. Ron Hubbard. They provide this training free of charge to police, firefighters, other emergency relief personnel and volunteer groups.
Eighty-five police officers were selected for this program from units around the country. Communication skill is vital in times of disaster and these policemen underwent five days of intense training in a communication workshop conducted by the Scientology Volunteer Ministers.
"This was an excellent program," said one of the volunteers responsible for the training. "It was clear that these men and women changed dramatically in the course of doing it."
Police officers increased their ability to confront situations and learned how to establish rapport, agreement and understanding with others. The training included drills and practical assignments to help them hone these abilities.
